About Jayden Cooper
Jayden is an American Jazz guitarist and educator in the San Francisco Bay Area whose musical development began at age six studying piano and later guitar under J. (James) Shelby at 851 Music Studio in Benicia. After formal education on musical performance in several Jazz workshops led by J. Shelby, Jayden began to lead and perform with several Vallejo bands through his teens, including The Deserted Phantoms, Red Summer, Fever Dream, and BackAlley Players to name a few. He was offered a job teaching guitar at 851 Music Studio at 17.
Over the years, he has studied under several musicians and educators including Jazz guitarist Frankie Lanaro, and his high school guitar teacher Dr. Marcel Maly. He was later accepted as a student of saxophonist and composer Charlie Gurke at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, where his musical development continues to be informed by a strong foundation in jazz, improvisation, and musical performance.
